We are delighted to announce the opening of the NIAB AgriGate Research Hub, at Hasse Fen, near Soham in Cambridgeshire.

The focus of this new, and unique, facility is applied research in reducing crop and food waste and improving resource use efficiency within the horticulture and fresh produce supply chains. Our opening event is an excellent opportunity to tour the field station, which includes laboratories, meeting room and office space, and catch-up with some of the projects already addressing crop waste with exhibits and demonstrations from our researchers and partners. The project has been possible with capital investment from the Greater Cambridge Greater Peterborough Enterprise Partnership (GCGP LEP) Eastern Agri-Tech Growth Initiative.Direction map to NIAB AgriGate Research Hub

The NIAB AgriGate Research Hub’s activity will include a range of agronomy projects, research on managing and safeguarding water resources and projects on adding value to on-farm waste streams within the horticulture sector. Reducing wastage in UK agriculture is a key step in addressing the challenge of producing food in a more sustainable and efficient way. WRAP UK estimates that 16% of all food waste occurs before it arrives on retailers’ shelves.

Speakers include NIAB CEO Dr Tina Barsby, Mark Reeve, Chairman of GCGP LEP and the NIAB AgriGate Research Hub's project leader Dr Effie Mutasa-Gottgens.

George Freeman MP, Minister for Life Sciences, and South East Cambridgeshire MP Lucy Frazer will formally open the facility, with exhibits and demonstrations from Gs, Anglian Water, Ozone Purification Limited, NIAB, KisanHub, ARTIS, NIAB CUF, GCGP LEP and Agri-Tech East, plus others to be confirmed.

Places are limited on a first come, first serve basis. For further details please contact Dr Effie Mutasa-Gottgens by email or 01223 342215.
